Fergie has last chance to move Spanish ace to Old Trafford

Fergie to test Real in race for Spanish ace

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson is ready to take on Real Madrid in the race to sign Valencia midfielder David Silva. Real Madrid were reportedly close to a deal for the Spanish international but it emerged yesterday evening that Ferguson is considering launching an offer to tempt the player to Old Trafford.

The 24-year-old is ready to quit Valencia and challenge for major European honours with the wideman being linked with Chelsea, Barcelona, and Liverpool in the past few months, however Real Madrid and Manchester United are now considered the front – runners to land the tricky winger.

Real Madrid made contact with Valencia last week regarding the availability of Silva with the Spanish media reporting that Madrid chiefs would secure a deal in the coming weeks, however reports this morning suggest that the door is still open for Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson to make an approach. Fergie is a keen admirer of Silva and has tracked him for the last year, but Ferguson has warned that he will not pay over the odds for player’s in the transfer market, and admitted he was only looking at making one addition to the Red Devils squad.

Wayne Rooney's Ankle Still A Major Worry :Fabio Capello

Wayne Rooney

The England striker isn't a doubt for the World Cup but has been undergoing 'reinforcement' work to his damaged ligaments according to the News of the World.

While the majority of the squad took part in training on Friday, Rooney was allowed to rest alongside FA Cup finalists David James, John Terry, Frank Lampard and Ashley Cole who arrived late to the training camp in Austria.

The whole focus in the build-up to the World Cup so far has been whether Rooney will be fit, and Capello has conceded that it is difficult telling the Manchester United striker to rest.

Capello is quoted in the News of the World as saying: "I can leave some players out, but Rooney always wants to play.

"If I tell him no, he says 'I want to play!', 'I want to train!' 'why you substitute me, I want to score!'.

"It is good because he is an example to the other players, he is positive to be around."

Rooney injured his ankle ligaments against Bayern Munich in the Champions League quarter-final, and later aggravated the injury in the Manchester derby against City.
